Internship Opportunities

Position Title: Archive Intern

Supervisor: Development Manager

Background:  The Minnesota International Center (MIC) is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan, community organization. Our mission is to inspire community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. MIC is affiliated with the World Affairs Councils of America, the Foreign Policy Association, the National Council for International Visitors and NAFSA: the Association of International Educators.

Since MIC’s inception in 1953, we have been bringing the world to Minnesota’s doorstep.  Help MIC document this rich intercultural history by maintaining the archives and designing your own research project.  The Archive Internship is perfect for someone looking to produce an original piece of scholarship, namely compiling a history of MIC by using primary sources and collecting oral histories.

Responsibilities/Duties:

To assist MIC in the following areas:

  • Sort archives based on importance to the organization
  • Organize and label files in order to make recommendations for archives
  • Communicate with archivists at the University of Minnesota & the MN Historical Society
Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

Because of the independent nature of this internship, the archive intern must be a self-starter as well as possess the following skills:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and research skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to work on several projects simultaneously and independently
  • Interest in archiving, history and/or writing
