Internship Opportunities

Position Title: Community Programs Intern

Community Programs focuses on grassroots-level programming by coordinating foreign policy discussion groups and opportunities for MIC members to host international students and scholars in their homes.  Utilizing the nationally-acclaimed Great Decisions series by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), the Community Programs Manager maintains and supports a state-wide network of foreign policy discussion groups.  This year - 2009 - will be the second year for the annual Great Decisions conference in the Fall.  Additionally, Community Programs arranges for MIC members to host international students and scholars studying at the University of Minnesota in their homes for dinner or more lengthy periods of time.

Supervisor: Community Programs Manager

Responsibilities/Duties:

To provide assistance to the Community Programs Manager in the following capacities:

  • Prepare correspondence and mailings

  • Update data and track statistics

  • Communicate with program participants by phone, mail or email as needed

  • Prepare for statewide Great Decisions conference to take place in Fall 2009
  • Program/ conference preparation including correspondence and physical set-up
  • Develop framework for assessing impact of Great Decisions discussions

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interest in foreign policy topics and promoting discussion of such issues
  • Strong Excel skills

  • Ability to work with visual/graphic computer application a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of Greater Minnesota communities a plus, but not required
