Internship Opportunities

Position Title: Database Intern: International Visitor Leadership Program 

Supervisor: International Visitor Leadership Program Manager

Background:  The Minnesota International Center (MIC) is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan community organization. Our mission is to inspire our community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. MIC is affiliated with the World Affairs Councils of America, the Foreign Policy Association, the National Council for International Visitors and NAFSA: the Association of International Educators.

The International Visitor Leadership Program operates under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State, bringing emerging leaders from all over the world to Minnesota to meet with their professional counterparts without publicity or protocol.  MIC arranges professional and cultural meetings for more than 300 State Department International Visitors annually on a wide variety of topics including education, trade, human rights, journalism and many more.  These meetings facilitate a global exchange of ideas between local and international leaders.

MIC uses the Raiser’s Edge database to record and collate organizational information and is integral to making every program – especially IVLP – run as smoothly and accurately as possible.  The IVLP database internship is a year-long, project-based internship.  The intern will garner a high sense of value in assisting the program staff.  Additionally, it’s a great professional development opportunity for anyone seeking skills in database entry or a career in database management.

Responsibilities/Duties:

To work in an administrative capacity in the following areas:

  • Compile completed program itineraries and enter all information into database
  • Create new records and link them to events
  • Search database for existing files and update existing records
Verify new and existing records are corrected via internet research corroboration

Qualifications:

The IVLP is eager to have a database intern that is comfortable working alone and enjoys database entry.  The IVLP database intern must have:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask while ensuring accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in internet research
  • Research skills
  • Eagerness to ask questions and demonstrate follow-through
  • Previous work in other database programs a plus, but not required

**This position requires a year-long commitment of 10 hours a week
