Great Decisions: Reform in the Middle East - What is Iraq's Role?
Thursday, April 22, 2004

Regime change in Iraq has brought about speculation and hope that nation-building in Iraq will encourage stability and democracy in the region. Dr. Abbas Mehdi, professor of Organization and Sociology at St. Cloud State University, will share his views on Iraq’s Role in Reform in the Middle East on Thursday, April 22.

Originally from Iraq, Dr. Mehdi is the Founder and Chairman of the Union of Independent Iraqis, an international organization that promotes democracy in Iraq. An internationally recognized speaker and expert on issues involving the Middle East, Dr. Mehdi is frequently interviewed and quoted by local, regional and international media, such as Minnesota Public Radio, KMSP radio, WCCO radio and the Star Tribune.

Gary Eichten, Minnesota Public Radio host, commented about Dr. Mehdi, “He brings genuine knowledge to the subject, but perhaps, more importantly, he is personally affected by what is happening in Iraq, and thus can share his personal, human reactions to those developments.”
