World Chat: Sudan - Crisis in Darfur
Wednesday, February 23, 2005

As we repeatedly view scenes of untold suffering among refugees from Darfur, we wonder how this crisis came to be. Our speakers will give a framework to this crisis and how it is being treated.

Hugh Parmer currently serves as President of the American Refugee Committee (ARC) which oversees primary health programs and water distribution in refugee camps in the southern part of Darfur, Sudan. ARC has also operated health-related programs for more than 10 years in Southern Sudan.

Akec Khoc is a physician from South Sudan, studying in Minnesota. He has participated in various debates on the rights of minorities in Sudan and socio-economic development discrepancies in the Sudan, and has been active in trying to bring public attention to the issues in Sudan, including the International Day of Conscience for Sudan.
