Background: The Minnesota International Center (MIC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, community organization. Our mission is to inspire community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. MIC is affiliated with the World Affairs Councils of America, the Foreign Policy Association, the National Council for International Visitors and NAFSA: the Association of International Educators.
The International Classroom Connection arranges for international students, scholars and community members to meet with Minnesota elementary and secondary school students in their classrooms to share culture, personal perspectives and ideas. |
Responsibilities/Duties:
To assist with ICC coordination and administration. Responsibilities can include:
- Phone, fax and e-mail contact with international speakers and classroom teachers; assist with projects related to World Cultures Day events; filling requests for speakers and confirming arrangements.
- Assist with training workshops: mailing announcements, preparing materials, setting up and registration.
- General clerical and administrative assistance with mailings; making photocopies; data entry; word processing; power point, program reports.
- (Optional) Escorting international speakers to classroom presentations; Publicizing MIC at on-campus events.
Note: ICC Internships for summer are composed of generalized program projects since MIC does not schedule presentations or training workshops during the summer.

Qualifications:
Interpersonal communication skills (must be able to interact with both international people and the community.) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Background or course work in education, communication, international relations or languages. Interest in promoting global education. Word-processing and database skills preferred. |
