Position Title: World Affairs and Special Events Program Intern

Supervisor: World Affairs and Special Events Manager

Background:  The Minnesota International Center (MIC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, community organization. Our mission is to inspire community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. MIC is affiliated with the World Affairs Councils of America, the Foreign Policy Association, the National Council for International Visitors and NAFSA: the Association of International Educators.

World Affairs Programs address current international issues in a number of formats including breakfast and lunch meetings, evening receptions, seminars, symposia, roundtables and discussion group formats.

Responsibilities/Duties:

To work in an administrative capacity for the World Affairs and Special Events Program providing:
  • Event assistance: materials preparation and registration at the event. Assist with follow-up after the event.
  • Event promotion: event publicity mailings. Assist in mailing media announcements on events and in generation and distribution of publicity materials.
  • General clerical duties: faxing, mailing, telephoning and preparing written correspondence.
  • Research: conduct research and topics related to the program. Assist in preparation of educational materials for events.
  • Audience Research: Identify potential organizations and individuals to send promotional materials to.
  • Event preparation: Assist in preparation for events including informational handouts, table tents, logistics, etc.
  • World Affairs Files: assist in maintenance of files.
Qualifications:

Organizational skills, ability to work independently, ability to work on several projects simultaneously, interest in world affairs issues and ability to interact with the public. Preferred word-processing and data entry skills.
