Position Title: Programming Assistant (hourly part-time)

Reports To: Education Program Manager

Position Summary:  The Minnesota International Center is a nonprofit, non-partisan community organization dedicated to inspiring the community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. MIC is searching for an outgoing self -starter with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and an interest in meeting and working effectively with multiple constituencies including international students, educators and volunteers. Flexible schedule possible. 25 hours per week. Retired teachers are urged to apply.

The Programming Assistant works as a member of MIC's program team to further MIC's mission in Minnesota. The Programming Assistant works primarily for the Education Program Manager to deliver MIC's program in the schools and is specifically responsible for logistics related to coordinating about 400 presentations made annually by approximately 70 international speakers in K-12 classrooms throughout the state. Duties include recruiting and supporting volunteer and international student resources necessary to implement this program as well as the teachers who are the customers for this program. Duties also entail maintaining database, statistics and activity records related to the entire classroom program.

Some evening and weekend hours required. Willingness to travel throughout the metro area and state. Requires valid Minnesota Drivers License and good driving record.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Under the leadership of the Education Program Manager coordinates all aspects of the development and management of the international speaker resource for the program in K-12 schools:
  • Coordinate logistics to identify, recruit and match international speakers to meet the needs of educators participating in MIC's school based program. Includes visit confirmations, school invoices, speaker stipends and visit evaluations, arranging volunteer escorts and transportation as necessary.
  • Maintain program activity database related to teachers, schools, international speakers and school program volunteers including speaker presentation log and other program statistics to be used for program marketing, evaluation and reporting.
  • Under the direction of the Education Programs Manager - Promote and inform K-12 teachers of program opportunities including speaker opportunities and staff development for teachers. Coordinates logistics for cultural training workshops as needed.
Qualifications:

Requires demonstrated strong project coordination and organizational skills, including ability to manage and anticipate logistical challenges, strict attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, impeccable follow-through and the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Strong computer skills required, including experience with word processing, databases, spreadsheets and e-mail. Experience with Raiser's Edge strongly preferred. Some college required, B.A degree preferred. Strong interest in international and intercultural education a plus as is familiarity with the Minnesota education system.

Compensation:

This is an hourly position in the range $8-10/hour depending on experience. An average of 25 hours per week. Flexible scheduling is possible. Part time employees accrue some benefits.
